TURKEY TRAVEL INFORMATION

Access by plane
To access our base in Ayder, you need to fly to the Trabzon International Airport (TZX). With most Airlines, you will transit through Istanbul.
This destination is serviced daily by Turkish Airlines and the majority of airlines. There are two airports in Istanbul, Atatürk (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). These two airports are at least a two hours drive apart from each other.

Ensure to book your flights (international and domestic) with arrival / departure from the same airport.

The majority of flights arrive and depart from Atatürk Airport. This airport is also the closest to the city center (about 40 minutes by car). Sabiha Gökçen is located more than an hour away from the old city of Istanbul.
Several companies provide the link between Istanbul (IST or SAW) and Trabzon.
You can book your flights with your usual travel agency. If you wish, we can also suggest various flight options to you.

Luggage
With Turkish Airlines, you can check-in your luggage directly for the final destination for both the inbound and the return flight.

You have a 30 kg luggage allowance with Turkish Airlines. There is no additional charge for ski bags and they are not included in these 30 kg.
Important!!! Although with Turkish Airlines, we have rarely had problems with any lost luggage items, we suggest you carry your ski/snowboard boots with you as hand luggage. Should your luggage belost or delayed we can help you with all equipment needed for heliskiing, but replacing your own comfortable ski boots is almost impossible!

Transit in Istanbul
Upon arrival in Istanbul Atatürk you must first pass immigration/ custom control. Then, if your luggage has been checked through to Trabzon, you will exit directly from the baggage reception hall and follow, on your left, the indications that will lead you through corridors to the domestic airport.

Arrival in Trabzon
At the exit of the plane in Trabzon two exits are possible:
  • Arrival of domestic flights
  • Arrival of international flights

If your luggage has been checked through to Trabzon: They will arrive at the international terminal (left building). So you have to go out through the International Terminal to claim them.

If you have collected your luggage in Istanbul, and re-registered these on the IST -TZX domestic flight: They will arrive at the domestic terminal (right building).

Warning!!! The majority of passengers join the domestic terminal. Be careful not to follow them if you have to pick up your luggage at the international terminal. You can ask your way to Turkish Airlines personnel on the tarmac. In general, you need to take a bus to reach the international terminal.
